At Ocean Medical Practice, our Bondi GPs perform skin cancer checks and minor skin procedures. Being close to the beach, Bondi residents and visitors tend to spend more time outdoors, and are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer due to prolonged sun exposure.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia, with two out of three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. The most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. More information regarding the types of skin cancer can be found at the
Skin Cancer Council
You can reduce your risk of developing skin cancer by limiting exposure to UV rays. This includes wearing protective clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and using sunscreen with a high SPF. It is also recommended to avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak UV times, which in Australia is usually between 11 am and 3 pm.
It is also important to get regular skin checks from a qualified skin doctor.
Dr Pauline Yuan has a special interest in skin checks and skin cancer medicine and is able to perform a full skin cancer check and minor skin procedures.
In addition to skin cancer removals, our GPs are able to surgically remove small skin lesions such as skin tags and cysts, and suspicious looking lesions or biopsy lesions. Our doctors are able to repair wounds with suturing if required. If you are concerned about a lesion, please speak to our doctors.
Plantar warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by the human papilloma virus. Planter warts are spread from person to person contact, or from indirect contact with the virus in communal showers. Our Bondi Road doctors can discuss treatment options such as liquid nitrogen therapy.
