Women's Health | Bondi Road Doctors & GPs

At Ocean Medical Practice, our Bondi Road Female Doctors and GP team have special interests in Women’s and Reproductive Health and understand the wide range of issues and health conditions that affect women more frequently or differently than men.
Some key areas that our GPs can assist with include:
  1. Reproductive Health: This includes issues related to menstruation, fertility, contraception, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Our Doctors at Ocean Medical offer individualised contraceptive advice to find the best option for you. If you are considering starting a family, our GPs can help with pregnancy planning to get the best start possible. If you have been trying and have difficulty conceiving, it may be necessary to exclude other causes. Certain Doctors also offer antenatal shared care with Royal Hospital for Women and the RPAH hospital to assist your through your pregnancy.
  1. Breast Health: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, so regular screening and monitoring are important for early detection and treatment. Our doctors offer breast examinations and can assist with early detection of breast lumps.
  2. Cervical Cancer Screening: Is the process of detecting pre-cancerous and cancerous cells in the cervix (the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina). Screening is typically done using a Pap test/Pap smear, which involves collecting cells from the cervix and examining them under a microscope for abnormalities. Another screening test is the HPV test, which checks for the presence of the human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus that can cause cervical cancer. Regular cervical cancer screening is important because early detection and treatment of pre-cancerous cells can prevent cervical cancer from developing. The National Cervical Screening Program recommends that women with a cervix begin cervical cancer screening at age 25 and have a Pap test and HPV test every five years until age 74. It's important to talk to our Women’s Health GPs about your individual risk factors and screening needs for example in you have had a hysterectomy.
  1. Sexual Health: Sexual health encompasses a wide range of issues related to sexual function, pleasure and safety, as well as the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Our GPs can arrange sexual health tests and screening. Some women experience pain on intercourse, vagismus (sexual pain disorder), or pelvic pain. Our GPs can help you investigate and address these issues in a sensitive manner.
  2. Mental health: Women may be at higher risk for certain mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, and may also face unique stressors related to gender roles, caregiving responsibilities, and other factors. Our Bondi Rd Doctors Team are able to assess your concerns and offer assistance where required.
  3. Chronic conditions: Women may also be more likely to develop certain chronic conditions, such as osteoporosis, and thyroid disorders, which require ongoing management and treatment. Our doctors can also assist with other conditions related to menstrual problems, urinary problems, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and peri-menopause or menopause.
